Military veteran Noah Galloway to serve as keynote speaker at Alabama State Games
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The 43rd Annual Alabama State Games will take run from June 12-14 in Birmingham.
This year’s opening ceremony will take place inside Legacy Arena at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.
This year’s sports lineup features bass fishing, mountain biking, billiard, kickball, track and field, softball and much more.
To kick off the annual event, Birmingham native and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran Noah Galloway will serve as the keynote speaker at the Athlete Leadership Summit.
The summit, which helps opens the games, will take place at 5 p.m. on June 12 inside the North Exhibition Hall at the BJCC.
Galloway earned a Purple Heart after an IED attack during his second deployment to Iraq in 2005 left him a double amputee.
After the IED attack, he woke up at Walter Reed Medical Center and learned he had lost his left arm, left leg and his military career.
Despite life-changing injuries, Galloway found a new purpose as a motivational speaker and advocate for resilience.
Action 8’s Estee Morrison sat down with Laura Creel Burt to learn more about this year’s activities, including the summit. You can watch that interview above.
