Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford resigns in agreement with the city

SELMA, Ala. (WAKA) – Kenta Fulford is no longer the police chief in Selma after reaching a settlement agreement with the city.

The city council voted unanimously last night to confirm the agreement at a special called meeting.

Fulford agreed to resign as chief and to be reassigned to his former rank of lieutenant, effective immediately.

The city council voted to place Fulford on paid administrative leave about a month ago at the recommendation of the mayor.

The reasons included conduct detrimental to good order or discipline, habitual neglect of duty and repeated and consistent failure to perform assignments and tasks.

“Chief Fulford was afforded due process,” Selma Mayor Johnny Moss III told Action 8 News. “So, we wanted to make sure that he had all the rights that were afforded to him. And we wanted to make sure that the process was fair, and I think it was. And this is a resolution that benefits both sides.”

Moss says he plans to confer with the city council to create a job description for the chief position before moving forward to find a permanent new chief.
