CAMPAIGN 2026: Primary Election Results
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Here are the latest Alabama state and local election results from Action 8 News:
STATE AND LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS
Polls closed at 7PM. It typically takes several hours to count all of the ballots statewide. The Associated Press may announce a winner of a state or federal race depending on the results.
The top state and local races are:
Governor: Three Republicans and six Democrats hope to replace outgoing Gov. Kay Ivey, who can’t run for a third term due to term limits.
U.S. Senate: Incumbent Tommy Tuberville is one of the Republicans running for governor, so he is giving up his U.S. Senate seat. There are seven Republicans and five Democrats who want to take his place on Capitol Hill in Washington.
U.S. House: All seven of the state’s seats are up for election, as they are every two years. What’s different is that due to the recent redistricting, the votes in Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 will not count because some voters may now be in a new district. A special primary will be held for those seats on August 11.
State Races: There are contested primaries for lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, agriculture commissioner, state auditor and two seats on the Alabama Public Service Commission.
Local Races: Many counties have local primaries for sheriff, county commission, school board and other offices.
If a race ends with no candidate getting more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers will go to a runoff on June 16.
The Democratic and Republican nominees will face off in the general election on November 3.
