CAMPAIGN 2026 (WAKA) – U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has released income tax returns, which his campaign says provides proof that he’s able to run for governor in this year’s election.

Tuberville, who has homes in Alabama and Florida, has faced questions on whether he’s lived in Alabama for the seven years that is required to run for governor.

“We’re happy to put the residency issue to bed. It has served its purpose, and it’s time to provide the facts and move on,” campaign Chairman Jordan Doufexis said in a statement. “We will submit a comprehensive response to the Republican Steering Committee, including Coach Tuberville’s tax returns, property records and other documentation demonstrating that he is a resident citizen of Alabama and has been for well beyond the period required under the Alabama Constitution.

Action 8 News has seen returns from 2018 through 2025, which were filed jointly by Tuberville and his wife Suzanne. The 2018 return indicates that he lived in Alabama starting August 1 of that year. It lists an Auburn address.

The returns themselves have monetary information redacted.

Tuberville won the Republican primary for governor on May 19. One of his opponents was Ken McFeeters, who is still challenging Tuberville’s eligibility. The Alabama Republican Party has scheduled a hearing for later this month to address McFeeters’ concerns.

Doufexis responded to that scheduled hearing:

“We have the best team in Alabama and they will undo the false and undocumented allegations from his previous opponent. I have no doubt that, when the record is reviewed in full, the committee and everyone else will conclude that Coach Tuberville not only meets but exceeds every constitutional requirement to serve as Governor of Alabama.

“To that point, we are very grateful to the Republican Steering Committee for agreeing to hold a formal hearing on this matter and not dismissing the allegations too quickly. We know their time is valuable, but we have no doubt that they will commit to evaluating the facts and reaching an impartial decision.”

Tuberville faces Democratic gubernatorial nominee Doug Jones in the November general election. Jones is a former U.S. senator whom Tuberville unseated in 2020.
