Ribbon cut to new addition to Habitat for Humanity neighborhood

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery’s Habitat for Humanity has cut the ribbon to its newest addition at New Hope Village.

A new road has opened at the neighborhood, which is at the corner of Millard Fuller Drive and Alabama River Parkway. The new road will help improve residents’ access to their homes and other parts of the neighborhood, now that the community has grown.

New Hope Village is a collaborative project between city and county leaders that provides affordable housing to deserving families.

“This gives our children access to having a safe place for the buses to pick them up,” Habitat for Humanity President & CEO Susan Johnson said. “This gives them a safe way to be able to get to their jobs instead of going on a dirt road that has a lot of potholes in it.”

“We’ve added some new homes here and we’re talking about a pocket park, Susan and I are talking,” Montgomery City Council member Julie Beard said. “So we’re taking the baby steps now to get those things implemented out in this lovely neighborhood.”

One of the streets connected to the new road is named in honor of Habitat for Humanity’s founder Millard Fuller.
