Crimestoppers Scholastic Tip Line Making a Difference in Schools

Student’s in school may see activity adults don’t. And when activity turns dangerous, Crimestoppers scholastic tip line is there to help.

Since 2012, the Crimestoppers’ scholastic tip line has led to more than 70 arrests. All students have to do- call 215-STOP or report illegal activity on school grounds to their school resource officer.

An anonymous tip will lead to a 50 dollar reward, if a gun’s recovered the tipster will get 100 dollars.

So far this year anonymous tips have already led to 8 arrests, involving mariajuana, bullying escalating to assault, burglary, even a car theft arrest.

Crimestoppers leaders say a small group of students create the problems, a much larger group is working to put a stop to it.

Tony Garrett, Crimestoppers Director said, “A person that is reporting a crime is actually a good citizen and if we don’t go ahead and start instilling that into our kids, when they grow up someone breaking into their neighbors house, they are not going to say anything because they have the false idea that they are a snitch versus being a good citizen.”

This program applies to any school student in the River Region, if you want your school to participate and put up flyers to get the word out contact Crimestoppers at 215-STOP.

This programs made possible this year thanks to funding from Authority Bail Bonding, ATF is also pitching in for any gun recoveries.
