Is Montgomery Prepared for a Snow Storm?

It was a cold, rainy Wednesday for Montgomery, but people we talked to say they would much rather see the rain than the snow that counties to our north are experiencing.
Gary Givhan says, “Bad enough when it’s wet. I definitely don’t want it to snow down here.”
Cynthia Ross agrees. “No snow please… Not down South cause we are not prepared for it.”
Last year, Montgomery did receive a pretty big snow event and EMA director Calvin Brown says he felt the city was prepared.
But now with a new GIS mapping system, they are even more prepared.
“We are able to map out bridges and those things where we have any problems on those locations. We can map it out and respond to it much quicker,” said Brown.
What used to be done with a grease pencil and glass, now is done with computers.
As far as equipment for preparing and clearing the roads, Brown says there is enough to help, but he doesn’t see the need for any more.
“Those events are not an often occurrence for us. So it would not behoove us to spend our funds on things that aren’t going to happen that often, but we do have enough equipment to handle a situation, handle an ice storm here in Montgomery,” said Brown.
Those we talked to say they feel like the city did well when it came to handling last year’s storm.
“I think we did good, pretty good since not seeing snow since probably early 2000’s/late 90’s. I think it was pretty good. But as far as it coming back? Uhh, I’m not a big fan,” said Jevante McGhee.
