Breaking: Macon County Schools Closed Due to “credible threat”
All Macon county schools were closed Monday following what school officials are calling a “credible” threat.
Macon County Sheriff Andre’ Brunson says they were tipped off early Monday this morning from a watch dog service that had discovered the “shoot -’em up” type threat to Macon County Schools on social media.
“In this day and age it’s very important to listen to what we hear because its starting to happen so often” said Brunson. He would not specify which social media platform the threat was posted, but said it did not target any one particular school.
Both public and private schools in Macon County were closed for the day, with heightened security measures, like a squad car posted outside of Booker T. Washington High School.
“You cannot take the perspective of it can’t happen here” said Macon County superintendent Dr. Jacqueline Brooks.
Brunson said officials deemed the threat credible “because of the person, the things that they said, and other posts that they had made”.
Officials are not saying whether the threat was made by a student, but say the person responsible could be facing federal charges including making terroristic threats.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is still active though classes will resume Tuesday.
Superintendent, Jacqueline Brooks passed along this emailed message to Alabama News Network regarding the unexpected day off:

Parents, students, and community:
SCHOOL IS OPEN TOMORROW Thank you for your cooperation and patience surrounding today’s safety protocol. We have just had a briefing with law enforcement officials and are announcing that school is open tomorrow. Unfortunately, we cannot yet speak to the specific details of the matter but are glad to know that our officials jumped on it.
Bus routes will run as scheduled tomorrow and afternoon and after school activities will also resume. We will find out tomorrow what day will be used for make-up day, and we will provide more information as we get it. Thank you so very much.
