From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Schools in Demopolis are back open after shutting down early Friday because of a stomach virus outbreak.

Superintendent Dr. Al Griffin says every school in the district has been disinfected — and symptom-free students and teachers can return to school.

He closed school early on Friday after hundreds of students and teachers came down with norovirus.

Symptoms include nasea, vomiting and diarrhea.

“We just didn’t have an environment that was conducive for learning and it also allowed for more time to begin the disinfectant process,” said Griffin.

Health officials say there is no treatment for the virus. They say anyone who is affected should keep hydrated — and get plenty of rest.
