MONTGOMERY, AL— The entire Jeff Davis student body packed into the gym, to celebrate with their girl’s basketball team, who won the first ever 7A state title game in Alabama.

“It feels surreal now,” said head coach LaKenya Knight. “Now we’re home and everybody is congratulating us. Now I feel it, I feel good.”

The players enjoyed celebrating with their classmates.

“It feels better,” said junior forward Kayla Jackson. ” It feels way different because everyone is here. Everyone is here to witness this and congratulate us, so it’s better.”

The Mayor, Superintendent, and principal all joined in congratulating the team. County Commission Chairman Elton Dean announced that the girls will get a free steak dinner, and an official day named after their championship squad.

“It feels great knowing that since we won the state championship that we have a day, just for us,” said junior center Jasmine Walker.

“It’s so surreal,” said Jackson. “Because we didn’t know this was going to happen, but now it’s here so it’s like, it’s unbelievable.”

But now they can believe it. They can feel the love, and join together with everyone to remember winning it all.
