MONTGOMERY, AL — Carver High School student Melvin Tyus finally received his Jimmy Hitchcock award today after being away at a chorus trip in Orlando.

The Jimmy Hitchcock Award is presented to senior athletes that not only excel in the field but also in the classroom that bring the highest ideals of Christian values.

“It’s an honor,” said Tyus. “I give God all the glory. It’s just amazing to me knowing that my teammate last year won it, and that I had a chance to win it this year.”

Tyus is the second straight recipient for the Hitchcock Award for Carver. Standing out on the football field Tyus had 78 tackles and two interceptions this season.

He is signed to play for Troy in the fall of 20-15.
