June is almost here and that means it’s peach season.
More than 80 percent of Alabama’s peach crop comes from Chilton County. So a huge part of their local economy hands on the weather.
Workers at Peach Park say they expect this year will be a good year for the peach crop. They said for an ideal crop you need to have cold weather but no hard freeze once they start blooming and then no severe weather to damage the fruit.
Kimberly Benson, Manager Peach Park “The crop is really good this year, we’ve had really good weather, the peaches are really sweet and we expect a great crop.”
All of this is great news heading into June, the end of the month is dedicated to the week long Peach Festival.
Almost 15-million pounds of peaches are produced in the county in an average year.
