Back-lash Against Gas Pumps Regulations

A new Alabama law requires gas stations to test their own pumps, but some in the industry are criticizing the move.Â
According to the law, each business will have to hire new regulators to test the pumps.
In 2011, a total of 23 agents tested about 10-thousand of the states’ 100-thousand gas pumps. This year, there are only five agents.Â
The Alabama Petroleum and Convenience Marketers Association, a trade group which repsresents the gas station industry says forcing businesses to pay regulators amounts to a tax increase on smaller retailers. Â
