Investigators now know more about what made nearly 90 children sick at two Montgomery daycare centers.
86 children who attended the two Sunnyside Daycare centers in Montgomery were treated at local hospitals for symptoms that included vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and cramps.
State Health officer Dr. Don Williamson says test results have ruled out the norovirus or salmonella. However, it appears the food was contaminated with staph toxin.
More testing is needed to find out the exact food source behind the illnesses. Williamson says the good news is that the staph can not be transmitted from one child to the other and usually runs it’s course in 24 to 48 hours.
Williamson says he hopes the investigation into the outbreak is wrapped up by sometime next week.
