ASU Students and community gathered together on campus Thursday night to remember each of the nine victims in the Charleston shooting.
SGA president Jeremy Crum says it’s an event they felt was needed.
“It was necessary and very beneficial we wanted to show the student body along with the community of Montgomery that SGA is involved with that. We wanted to step up and take the initiative and make something like this happen,” said Crum.
Rachel Kazungu is an ASU student originally from Tanzania.
She says the shooting has opened her eyes to issues she is learning more about in the US. And the need for peace.
“As Americans, foreign people, Hispanics, everybody has to stand up for this issue. Doesn’t matter where you are coming from, you need to understand the issue in the African American community,” said Kazungu.
ASU President Gwendolyn Boyd encouraged students with scripture from the Bible…as well as challenged them to live a life full of love.
“Now the baton has been passed. And now it is up to us to make sure that we fulfill our assignment,” said Boyd.
