Montgomery Amateur Radio Club Hosts 24-Hour Field Day Event

The Montgomery Amateur Radio Club held a 24-hour “field day” to give people the chance to learn about the radio business. The MARC communicated with people in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico using morse code and voice communications. Today’s even was sponsored by the Radio Amateur League.

The world wide event teaches amateur radio personnel how to communicate without depending on electricity or other normal means. The MARC works closly with the EMA and uses this event as practice for emergency situations.

“Amateur radio folks have been involved in responding to emergencies for loss of communication,” says MARC Vice President Ken Brittin. “During hurricane katrina, it was hand operators that went to Louisiana and provided communications was down.”

The Montgomery Amateur Radio Club meets every 3rd Monday of the month at 7:00pm in the American Red Cross building on Woods Crossing Drive in Montgomery.
