Voters Speak Out on Issues before Mayor’s Race

Montgomery voters will head to the polls Tuesday to elect a new mayor and council.
Â
Some are speaking out on what issues they would like to see the next mayor tackle. People tell us they would like more attention given to fighting crime.
Â
Â
“Clearly crime is at the top of the list. Our murder rate is going up and that’s alarming in and of itself, especially in light of recent years. But I’d like to see jobs,” said Jim Benedict.
Â
Â
Others want more attention on those who are in the most need.
Â
“I’d love for them to concentrate more on homeless situation. And education is a big important issue. But I think they need to concentrate on more immediate things,” said Kathy Johnson.
Â
Â
Some say they want to see a mayor who serves all of Montgomery.
Â
“I want him to be politically correct, about all people, all people and districts around doing well. And be fair. I like the mayor now, but I will give Artur a chance,” said Carolyn Bowie.
Â
While some are ready for a change… Others say they are happy with the current mayor.
Â
“I’m voting for Todd Strange the incumbent mayor for re-election. I think he’s done a great job in the city, for the whole city of Montgomery, revitalizing downtown, bringing and creating jobs,” said “Mr. Gambino.”
Â
The election is Tuesday, August 25th. Polls are open from 7am to 7pm.
