The River Region United Way kicked off its annual campaign Thursday evening.
It was the 7th annual “Rally in the Alley.”
The United Way partners with over 40 different agencies to help provide services for those in need in our community.
President and CEO Jimmy Hill says they have a big goal this year.
“We want to raise $5,019,797 and we need everything in the community helping us do that,” said Hill.
Hill says that money will go to help people in our area through non profits like the Salvation Army, which works year round to provide shelter and meals for men, women and children.
“What happens is our demand doesn’t go down. But our donations go down because it’s summertime and people are busy doing other things, so if you’re thinking about it, remember the Salvation Army in the summertime. We really need the help and we can always use volunteers,” said Maj. Walter Strong.
