Lake Martin Boats Burglarized

Elmore County deputies are trying to solve a rash of burglaries — not at homes or businesses, but on boats. More than a dozen boat owners at Lake Martin have found their boats ransacked with items stolen. Now, the search is on for the person who did it.

John Flournoy’s boat is one of 27 other boats that have been housed here at the Anchor Bay Marina on Lake Martin for the last three years. And the reason why he’s frustrated is in these pictures from inside his boat: here’s a televison barely hanging by its cord and another thrown on the couch.

“You just look down and there’s a T.V. there laying on the couch with the back completely gone off of it and there’s another hanging from the cord where they just ripped it off  the wall. All the cabintets were open, the beds were flipped up, all the cushions moved around,” Said Flournoy.

He says it’s about $1,000 worth of damage and stolen property. Elmore County investigator, Stan Hinson, says it was a surprise that left half of the boats on the marina burglarized.

“Some of the covers were ripped and torn as they were getting on board, others did not have actual covers, they had  locking doors, pretty much all of them had doors they could get into,” Said Hinson.

He says that’s how the burglar stole about $10,000 worth of property. Everything from electronic equipment like televisions stereos, GPS’s, DVD players and video game systems, to guns and even alcohol.

Flournoy says he just want the burglar who did this found.

“[They] just went through everything. Raised up everybody’s beds, went through everyone’s compartments and cabinets. Everybody’s boat that I went on just looked about the same,” Said Flournoy.

Investigtors say they do have fingerprint evidence and are in the process of getting surveilance video now. Alabama News Network will keep you updated when we have more information they say they’re hoping to have a description of the person involved very soon.

Investigators say only some of the boats were locked, so they’re asking everyone to lock their boats. If you can help deputies solve this case, call the Elmore County Sheriffs office at 567-5441.
