Selma assistant police chief resigns after being cleared of wrongdoing
Selma Assistant Police Chief Natasha Fowlkes has resigned, despite being cleared in a recent investigation.
Selma Mayor James Perkins, Jr., said in a statement that someone in the police department had accused Fowlkes of illegal activity. Perkins said the department’s internal affairs unit determined the accusation warranted further investigation. He said Fowlkes was put on administrative leave with pay as the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate.
Perkins said the sheriff’s office and the district attorney jointly concluded there was no criminal offense.
Despite being cleared, Perkins said after talking with Fowlkes, she decided to resign due to the impact the investigation had on her and her family.
He says he has accepted her resignation from the department as of today.
“I want to thank her for services rendered throughout her law enforcement career with the Selma Police Department and hope for her a successful future,” Perkins said.
