Theft suspects caught red handed during sting operation in Selma

Dallas County deputies catch two theft suspects — in the act of stealing copper — during a sting operation early Wednesday morning.
Sheriff Mike Granthum says deputies caught the suspects red-handed — prying copper off the old National Guard Armory building — in Selma.
“We set up a sting operation at the crack of dawn this morning,” said Granthum.
“I mean, we were going to catch these guys.”
Deputies arrested 46 year old Randall Murphy of Valley Grande — and 45 year old Mac Norwood of Selma — during the sting and took them into custody.
“We seen them get out of the vehicle and they had burglary tools in their hands,” Granthum said.
“Once they got there they used these crow bars and were prying the copper off the metal structure of the building.”
Murphy and Norwood are each facing multiple charges in the case.
“They’ve been charged with Theft-of-Property 1st, Criminal-Mischief 1st, Possession-of-Burglary-Tools and Criminal-Trespass. They’re behind bars. And that’s where they belong. And they don’t have to worry about stealing to buy food or buy a bed, cause that’s what we’re going to give them.”
Murphy and Norwood are each being held on $66,000 dollars bond.
