Free RING cameras and Wi-Fi available for a limited time to help victims of domestic violence

A local non-profit organization is giving away free Ring doorbell cameras to try to help victims of domestic violence. One Place Family Justice Center has been helping victims of domestic violence in Central Alabama for 14 years. This is a new program that they are really excited about because they believe it will act as a tool to help hold abusers accountable.

So here are the details – One Place is giving away 500 free RING doorbell cameras and free Wi-Fi to homes that do not currently have it. Domestic violence victims need to call (334) 262-7378 and answer some questions for about ten minutes to qualify. One Place Board Member Michael Briddell tells us that in a typical year, MPD receives around 5,000 domestic violence related calls. He says a lot of victims don’t follow up and can’t take the necessary steps to help keep themselves safe. These cameras can assist law enforcement by providing video documentation of abusers’ crimes.

“I think a lot of us remember that sad day back in July 2020 when a Montgomery police detective was murdered by an ex-boyfriend. That just lets you know that domestic violence can happen to anybody, but we think that these ring cameras have the ability to be a deterrent, and to also give people the confidence that they and their families will have at least one weapon in their arsenal to get the safety they deserve,” said Briddell.

Briddell tells us the funding to provide free Wi-Fi runs out very soon, so he is urging the community to spread the word to friends and family who may be in volatile domestic situations about this program. For more information, go to  www.oneplacefjc.org
