Opelika police seek answers in 2001 cold case double murder

The Opelika Police Department continues to seek answers in a 2001 double homicide cold case.

On September 28, 2001, at about 2:27AM, police were called to the 1100 block of Alabama Avenue to a fire at a home. When they arrived, they saw a mobile home with a large amount of smoke coming from inside.

Officers say they tried to get into the home, but couldn’t because of the fire. Once it was put out, first responders found the bodies of two men who had gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as 24-year-old Tramaris D. “Stank” Bryant and 28-year-old Tyrone “Winchie” Brooks.

Investigators followed up on potential leads, however, the case eventually turned cold. They and the victims’ families continue to seek answers and ask anyone who knows something or has information to please come forward.
