Montgomery city councilman, bank create partnership to help MPD officers become homeowners

Montgomery police officers now have an opportunity to become homeowners.

District 7 City Councilman Andrew Szymanski and Renasant Bank created a partnership that would allow law enforcement officers to have up to 100% financing without the need for mortgage insurance.

The new initiative, called the Community Homebuyer Loan, is a product that is tailored specifically for members of Montgomery’s law enforcement.

Szymanski says the Community Homebuyer Loan is a game-changer for Montgomery, directly addressing crime and police recruitment by turning officers into homeowners and community stakeholders. Officials say this initiative not only aids in officer retention but also fosters a safer, more cohesive city where law enforcement and residents are united in purpose.

“We are proud to partner with Andrew Szymanski and the city of Montgomery,” said Brett Dickey, Renasant’s Montgomery Mortgage Production Manager. “We are passionate about finding different ways to support our community. The Community Homebuyer Loan is a great mortgage product that can benefit many of Montgomery’s public service heroes.”

Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys says the new initiative is a huge step toward ensuring his officers have a real stake in the communities they serve.

“Montgomery’s police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect this city,” said Chief Graboys. “Homeownership not only provides stability for our officers and their families but also strengthens the bonds between law enforcement and our residents. I appreciate Renasant Bank, Councilman Szymanski, and everyone involved in making this initiative a reality. This is how we build a safer, stronger Montgomery together.”

District 7 City Councilman Andrew Szymanski sat down with Action 8 News Anchor Ellis Eskew to talk more about the new program. You can watch that interview above.
