Governor Kay Ivey appoints new sheriff in Perry Co.
From the west Alabama Newsroom–
There’s a new sheriff in town in Perry County.
Governor Kay Ivey appointed veteran law enforcement officer Roy Fikes as the county’s new sheriff.
He was sworn into office Thursday afternoon by Probate Judge Carlton Hogue.
Fikes has 30-plus years of law enforcement experience — all of them in Perry County. He says residents can expect more transparency during his administration — and for rules and regulations to be followed.
“It’s quite a few things might change but we’re going to go by policy and procedure,” said Fikes.
“And we’re going to be out in the community more. What we call — community policing. They gon’ be out doing more of that.”
Fikes says he’s grateful to the governor for the appointment — and for the confidence she’s placed in him to do the job.
