ACTION 8 UPDATE: Former Selma interim Fire Chief Franklin Edwards has been sentenced for leaving the scene of a fatal wreck in Jefferson County.

Edwards received a 10-year split sentence.  He will get credit for time served, but serve three years in prison followed by two years of supervised probation.
Last month, a Jefferson County jury convicted Edwards of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Prosecutors say Edwards was involved in a two-vehicle crash with a motorcycle on Interstate 59 in June of 2020.
The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Matthew Sartin of Pineville, Louisiana, was killed.
The car Edwards was driving was found abandoned two miles south of the crash scene.

Edwards was assistant fire chief  in Selma and was serving as interim fire chief when the wreck happened.
