Behind the Biscuits: Hunter Stovall

It’s been a full circle journey for Biscuit’s second baseman Hunter Stovall, a native of Pelham, Alabama. Stovall no stranger to taking the field at Riverwalk Stadium having already played there during a high school state championship game.

“It’s crazy back in the day I thought this was it, playing a high school championship on a minor league field or a professional baseball field and looking back it’s crazy what the game can do,” says Stovall.

Stovall, who grew up an Auburn fan, would not end up playing college ball on the Plains. He would go on to take his talents west to Starkville, Mississippi to play for the Bulldogs.

“Mississippi State is such a good culture it’s a baseball place, so I mean I enjoyed every second of being there,” explains Stovall.

Stovall played at Mississippi State from 2016-18 and was a part of the 2018 team who would make the trip to the College World Series. During the 2018 post season was when Stovall would get the life changing call from the Colorado Rockies. So while trying to bring home a national title to Starkville, Stovall’s dreams of playing professional baseball came true as he was picked up by the Rockies as the 636th overall pick in the 21st round.

In February of 2025 Stovall would sign with the Rays, which would eventually lead to him being assigned to the Biscuits and landing back home in Alabama. After spending the majority of his professional career on the west coast, Stovall now excited for the opportunity for his family and friends to be able to watch him with ease.

“It’s been fun because I’ve been able to play in front of some people that have been wanting to see me play for a long time but now the opportunity is the best it’ll ever be,” says Stovall.
