700 People Attend Diversity Summit in Montgomery

Diversity in the workplace is often a topic not discussed and Alabama often gets a bad reputation for not being inclusive. The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce is working to improve that stigma.

Today they held their eighth annual Diversity Summit. Around 700 people attended the conference, focused on discussing diversity in the workplace.

Workers from small businesses to large corporations, public to private sector employees were in attendance. They spent the day hearing from speakers about how to create an inclusive and diverse work place.

Some of the speakers say it’s human nature to be judgmental and that we all have unconscious biases. But, discussing that is one way to inspire change.

Stacia Robinson, a participant said, “I like to think of Montgomery actually making a lot of social impact not just here in the United States but worldwide. People see us as being the ones to be willing to have those tough conversations and this conference continues that and again steps it up to ways that make us better and be a community we want to live in.”

One speaker who travels the country speaking at diversity summits like this one, says he’s seen very few to this scale and with as much participation and attendance.
