Mid-90° heat Wednesday; More rain, less hot through the weekend

Temperatures were already in the low to mid 90s with heat indices near or above 100° at midday in most locations. However, showers and storms started to form around noon, and more develop through the afternoon. A few storms may become strong to severe, capable of a damaging wind gust. Outside of rain, expect a partly cloudy sky with high temperatures in the mid 90s Wednesday afternoon.

Showers and storms linger Wednesday evening, but fade away overnight. The sky becomes partly cloudy with lows in the low to mid 70s. Showers and storms become scattered about both Thursday and Friday afternoon. More rain means less heat, with high temperatures in the low 90s both days. The weather looks similar this weekend- scattered storms Saturday and Sunday, mainly during the afternoon, with high temperatures in the low 90s.

Next week’s weather looks unusually cool for late August. Model data suggests high temperatures potentially in the 80s for most of the week. Low temperatures could be in the 60s some if not most nights. This results from a cold front making a rare summer push through Alabama late this weekend or early next Monday. Humidity could be lower too, with a partly to mostly sunny sky and low rain chances throughout the week.
