These cadets have been working for years to march in the halls of Maxwell Air Force Base’s Air University.
It’s part of a competition showcasing skills they use throughout the year.

“We’ve redesigned the competition to emphasize the things they normally do. Ceremonies with flags, physical fitness, academic training, the things they normally would do in their weekly meetings,” said Jeff Clark with the Civil Air Patrol.

This team came from North Carolina for a shot at the championship.
For some of these young men, this is just the first step along their career path.

“I got involved when I was 12, a while ago, because a teacher told me about it and I thought it would be fun. I plan on joining the military so I thought it would be a really cool experience to have,” said Will Smith.

There are 96 cadets in town for the events. During down time, some are even making rockets to launch while they’re here.
But for many, it’s all about helping the community.

“Came back this year, did the same thing, won both competitions again. Was able to move on up here. But outside of that, we do probably two or three real world postings a month. We just did one for the governor of north carolina before we came here. So we can show the skills we learn and practice,” said Holden Browning.
