Lomax Hannon Junior College Celebrates 133 Years

Lomax Hannon Junior College is celebrating 133 years of historical impact and has no plans of slowing down its continued reach in South Alabama.

Lomax Hannon was originally founded as a high school in 1893 during a time when people of color were denied access to white educational institutions across the south. Lomax Hannon became a place of safety and gave an opportunity for higher education to anyone who wanted to learn. The school currently serves Greenville and surrounding areas with Adult Daycare socialization with meals provided and temple services for home-going ceremonies.

For 133 years the school has stood the test of time and now with a potential partnership with the city of Greenville will once again become a educational epicenter and continue to serve leaders within the household of faith.

“We are excited about the prospect of partnering with the community of Greenville… and we are seeing what we can do to revitalize this campus because it’s had such an important impact on African Americans in this area.” says Presiding Bishop Dwayne A. Walker

No official re-open date has been set.
