Lu Lu Gribbon Donates $100,000 to help fund Technology and Research for leg Amputees
Shark attack survivor Lu Lu Gribbon and her surgeons shared their experiences today at Troy University’s Helen Keller lecture series nearly two years following Gribbon’s attack.
Troy University’s Helen Keller lecture series welcomed Lu Lu Gribbon and her surgeons in honor of Gribbon’s resilience and her doctor’s creative thinking following a shark attack on June 7th 2024v which left her with a prosthetic leg and hand.
Lu Lu’s  experience could possibly have been avoided– as, unknowingly to her, another shark attack occurred just 90 minutes prior in the same area. Now, Lu Lu’s Law requires an alert be sent to all those in proximity when an attack is realized.
What makes her story so remarkable is that most amputees take 6 months post procedure to walk Lu Lu gained mobility just 7 weeks after the attack due to state of the art technology such as a prosthetic leg that analyzes her gate and a hand that moves neurologically.
Lu Lu acredits her quick recovery and adjustment to a virtual headset that helped her adjust to the use of her prosthetic hand, she is now donating 100,000 to the Lu Lu Strong Foundation to help make this technology possibly for leg amputees.
Troy University’s Helen Keller Lecture Series honors those like Alabamaian Helen Keller who fought against all odds to achieve greatness.
