The Selma-Dallas Co. Economic Development Authority hosts its inaugural Workforce Summit in downtown Selma.

Workforce development was the main focus of the inaugural Workforce Summit. The summit brought local industry and state agencies, together. They learned about the resources that are available to them to train workers — at little or no cost.

EdaBobby John Drinkard with AIDT was a presenter at the event.

“When it comes to running a successful business not only is a priority what you make in your building but also your workforce,” said Drinkard.

Davis Henry is the President of Henry Brick Company.

The Selma-based company has been in business since 1945.

“Having people that are trying to make sure that the people that apply for jobs are ready for jobs is critical,” said Henry.

“You talk to any employer in Dallas County, in the state of Alabama, in the country, it’s getting harder and harder to find people that want to work. And so finding qualified people that are willing to work and willing to learn, is what we’re really after.”

Wallace Community College Selma partnered with EDA to put on the Workforce Summit.

“Without Wallace Community College and the programs they have, we could not do what we can do for our companies,” said EDA Executive Director Brenda Tuck.

WCCS President Dr. Donitha Griffin was the guest speaker at the event.
