Montgomery Regional Airport to get $8.5 million for improvements

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The Montgomery Regional Airport has been awarded $8.5 million in federal funding for infrastructure updates.

U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Alabama), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, announced that the funding will bring renovations and improvements.

The funding will help strengthen core airport infrastructure while enhancing safety and operational efficiency. These improvements are critical to ensuring the airport can meet current needs, maintain compliance with federal standards and support continued growth in passenger travel and business activity.

“We were here today announcing nearly $9 million dollars in a federal grant from the FAA that Montgomery Regional Airport has received primarily to help repair runways which is critical, not just to the commercial passengers that come through here, but also to the operation of the F 35 fighter program that is maintained out of here, so this is a big announcement to make sure that we can maintain that program and continue to grow that program but also position the airport to be able to grow and to perform in a way that it needs to be,” Figures said.

The runway upgrades are scheduled to begin in October.
