WEATHER MILBROOK2
School leaders in our area say they are working with local EMA offices to make a decision about whether or not to let out early.

They say school is actually a safe place to be during a tornado warning, because they have rehearsed plans in place. At Elmore County Schools, the principals say they hold monthly drills. They also have an app system that will sound an alarm on all the staff’s cell phones in case of a tornado warning. The students have monthly drills so they know what to do inside the classroom. But, the main factor on the decision to let students out early has to do with the buses.

Andre Harrison, Elmore County Superintendent said, “Transport about 7,500 students a day on school buses. If we put all those students out there on the school bus, that is very scary.”

Ayena Jackson, Principal Millbrook Middle School said, “We have safe spots that have been designated safe spots thru the EMA, and so your students are safe here and we assure you we are going to do all we can so they are safe here.”
