AUM’s Carter takes NAIA First-Team All-American; Craig gets honorable mention
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (aumathletics.com) — Auburn Montgomery guard Jatoria Carter was one of 10 players selected to the 2015-16 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball All-America First Team Thursday. In addition, forward Reggotta Craig earned honorable mention honors.
A Montgomery native, Carter finished the season ranked in the top-10 nationally in six statistical categories, including leading the NAIA in steals with 126. She also finished second in points (683), points per game (20.7) and steals per game (3.818), while ranking seventh in assists (168). Her 5.1 assists per game was ninth nationally. Along with All-American status, she was selected the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s NAIA Player of the Year, as well as Southern States Athletic Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
Carter recorded six 30-point games this season, including a career-high 38 points against nationally-ranked Shawnee State. She recorded a pair of double-doubles during the season and became the 15th member of the 1,000 Point Club at AUM, reaching the milestone in just 61 games.
Craig, a native of Hoover, Ala., finished tied for third in the nation with 14 double-doubles and averaged 16.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Warhawks. She was third nationally in free throw percentage (.875), sixth in rebounds (302) and points (559), seventh in defensive rebounds per game (6.6) and ninth in rebounds per contest.
The tandem helped the Warhawks to a 23-10 record, the most by an AUM team since it posted a 28-6 record during the 2006-07 season.
