Montgomery Health Services Receives Grant to Fight Cancer

Cancer is an ongoing problem across the country, affecting millions of people. With the help of the Center for disease control, one health group is receiving a boost, all in hopes of saving lives across Montgomery.

Health Services in Montgomery received 90,000 dollars from the Center For Disease Control for vaccines to help prevent human papilloma-virus, or HPV. The group held a joint press conference, along with the American Cancer Society about receiving the new funds. Health Services in Montgomery is one of 30 federally qualified health clinics in the country to receive the grant.

HPV can cause cervical, and vaginal cancer, leading to more than six thousand deaths every year. Doctors say children ages 11 to 12 are the prime ages to get the vaccine to build up the child’s immune system, and not only will the donation help save lives, it will also help provide valuable information to parents.
