Montgomery Gears Up for Big Concert Weekend

City officials say this is the latest in what they hope is a string of big name acts to take to Montgomery stages
and make the Capital City a destination for summer entertainment.
10,000 tickets are already sold for the concert at Riverwalk Stadium.
“It’s sort of funny, because about a week before we found out they were coming, he said find out the closest place they’re coming to and we’ll travel there, and then within like four days I get a text message and I’m like, oh my gosh, they’re coming here,” said one concert-goer we spoke to.
Jubilee City Fest used to draw big name acts every summer until it closed in 2012. The city is not hosting this concert, but events coordinator Denise Welch says between this event and concerts on the city-sponsored Second Saturday, people are still coming to Montgomery for music.
“You know, over 10,000 tickets, you know, that they have sold for the concert and we have the capacity to have 10,000–you’re looking at 20,000 people. Heads in beds in Montgomery–that’s what the mayor likes,” Welch said.
Downtown restaurant managers hope concert-goers will spend the extra money
locally, which could bring in big crowds. It definitely increases like 30, 40 percent, so we definitely look forward to all the Biscuits games, concerts and all the things that go on downtown,” said Railyard Brewing Co. Manager Justin Miller.
The concert starts at 7:30 Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium.
