Gas Prices on the Rise
You may have noticed gas prices on the rise this week. With one of the busiest travel times of the year coming up, what can we expect for the rest of the summer?
Gas prices are on the rise across the country.
“Summertime is coming, gas is going up. Everybody might as well get ready,” said Michelle Regan.
Filling up at the Ann Street Entec, it will cost you $2.05 a gallon, but drivers say they’re not complaining.
“I figured that in summertime they would go up anyway. Most people are traveling. School is out,” said Daniel Whittle.
“I’d like to see them lower, we all would, but compared to last year and year’s past, they’re better than I have seen,” said Bill Smith.
Tony Graydon agrees.
“Would like for it to be back less than two dollars, but its reasonable I guess,” said Graydon.
According to AAA-Alabama Spokesman Clay Ingram, there are a lot of different factors that go into the higher prices.
“It’s been that our economy has improved over the last year or two. More importantly, is that our supply is stronger than it has ever been here domestically, so strong in fact that we have been exporting gas and oil the last year or two, which was virtually unheard of in years prior,” said Ingram.
The good news is, he expects the prices to stay steady or go even lower for the summer.
“I don’t think it’s going to get a whole lot higher than it is at the moment. We’ve certainly seen gas prices climb a little bit over the past few months. Just as an example, this past month, it’s gone up about 14 cents a gallon and about that much since the month prior,” said Ingram.
If prices remain around the 2 dollar mark or lower, drivers say that’s just fine with them.
“It would be nice. It would be nice,” said Graydon.
The average for a regular gallon of gas in Montgomery is $2.08. The national average is $2.26.
