Peach Jam Jubilee Brings Crowds to Clanton
It was a big night for Clanton as the city celebrated the end of peach festival week with the Peach Jam Jubilee Friday night.
Many were on hand, including the newly crowned peach queens, as well as close to 130 vendors.
The event draws visitors from across the state and even some from out of state to come see what Chilton County is best known for…peaches.
Durbin Farms Manager Colby Jones shared, “our county is really well known for putting a product out there that’s known nationwide and statewide.”
Businesses in the area also cashing in on the festival as a marketing opportunity. Penny Smith, owner of Sew Charming thinks the festival is great for her business.
“It lets everybody know what were doing and where were at,” she said, “and how to get in touch with us.”
James Calhoun has served as the chairman of the event for two years and says the event has been in the works for almost half a year.
“We’ve been planning for many, many months.” Calhoun said, “it starts about 6 to 8 months out and so we’ve been anticipating this day for a long time.”
He expected the festival attendance to possibly reach 10,000 people. The peach festival wraps up Saturday morning with a parade in downtown Clanton.
