Parents Talk to Their Children About Dealing With Police Officers
The recent shootings are fueling conversations about race. The talk about educating young people on how to interact with police is nothing new, but with cases like Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and other unarmed black men shot and killed by police that conversation has picked up steam, and one parent I spoke with says that conversation with their children specifically black male teens is important now more than ever.
“If he does run into that situation where it is a bad officer lets say, you do your part, that’s what you can control. You be calm, don’t do anything to insight anything,” says Delbert Madison, a father of a teenager.
