Long-time Civil Rights Leader Hosts Non-Violence Training in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Civil rights leaders in Selma are ramping up efforts to train people in the principles of non-violence in the wake of the Dallas shootings.
Long-time civil rights activist Bernard Lafayette is hosting a five day workshop that will equip participants in the techniques of non-violence.
Lafayette says he hopes they will use what they learn to train other community activists.
“One of the reason we were able to bring about the changes in the 60’s is because by using non-violence we were able to change the attitudes of people,” he said.
“No change, no revolution has ever been successful unless you are able to win the support and the sympathy of the majority.”
The workshop is being held at the Selma Center for Truth, Non-Violence and Reconciliation on the riverfront.
The public is invited to participate in a discussion with Bernard Lafayette about Non-Violence and Current Events Thursday, July 14th at 7 PM.
