AUM’s AD Jim Herlihy resigns, Rosa named interim
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (aumathletics.com) —- Auburn University at Montgomery Chancellor Carl A. Stockton has accepted Director of Athletics Jim Herlihy’s resignation and has named Jessie Rosa, AUM’s Associate Director of Athletics since 2012, Interim Director of Athletics.
Herlihy, who came to the university a year ago with a background in NCAA Division II transitions, helped the university secure a spot in the Gulf South Conference before deciding to leave to pursue new opportunities.
“Jim was instrumental in helping AUM secure a new conference home and has prepared us for the next phase of the NCAA Division II transition. We are grateful for his work at AUM and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” said Stockton.
Rosa previously served as interim AD following the retirement of Steve Crotz. Rosa is also the department’s Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).
“As AUM continues to work toward acceptance to NCAA Division II, I am excited to serve our Athletics Department in this role,” Rosa said. “I look forward to continuing the implementation of our athletics strategic plan and creating an outstanding experience for our student-athletes as well as our fans and supporters.”
Following a four-year stint as the department’s Assistant Director of Athletics, Rosa was promoted to Associate AD and SWA in 2012. She currently oversees men’s and women’s tennis and soccer as well as softball. She also heads financial management for 10 varsity sports and supporting units as well as game-day management for all sports in addition to coordinating AUM Athletics’ graduate assistant program and contract negotiations for corporate sponsorships.
Rosa earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from AUM. She was a four-year letter winner with the women’s soccer team, where she earned all-conference honors twice. Following her playing career, she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the women’s soccer program.
AUM currently is in its first year of NCAA Division II candidacy, working toward full acceptance in 2019.
