Budget Shortfall Leads to Paycuts for County Workers in Perry Co.

From the West Alabama Newsroom– County workers in Perry County will be seeing less in their pay checks — and more time at home.
County officials say a budget shortfall has caused an across the board pay cut for county workers.
The work week for all full-time county workers will be cut to thirty-two hours for the next three months.
County workers will lose one day a week for a total of twelve days in all during that time period.
“That will bring our budget back in balance,” said County Commissioner Albert Turner.
“A county can’t have a bloated budget. It has to be balanced and this is the only mechanism that we saw that we could balance the budget.”
Turner said county commissioners are taking a thirty day pay cut.
