ACA forfeits Providence Christian win due to transfer rule violation

MONTGOMERY,  Ala. (AlabamaNews.Net)  — The Alabama Christian Academy Eagles football team will forfeit their season opening win in Dothan against Providence Christian as the school self-reported they had unintentionally allowed an ineligible student-athlete to play in the game.

Alabama Christian Academy says the ineligible student-athlete transferred from a non-member school and that ACA believed the student was eligible to play based on information school officials had on the student.

A bona fide move was completed after the first game, but before the second game. Therefore, ACA will forfeit only their first win of the season.

The AHSAA has ruled the student was eligible to play once the move was completed.

Alabama Christian Academy’s Head of School, Dr. Misty Overman, said “We believed the student to be eligible and sincerely regret our mistake. We are disappointed this violation occurred, and we will continue to strive to comply with the AHSAA rules. We try to be vigilant in following AHSAA rules and guidelines. Even now, we have new students not playing because of the eligibility rules. Ultimately it is still our responsibility to make sure every student, even those we believe to be eligible, are in fact cleared to play. We have already developed additional checklists to confirm the residence of each potential player.”

Alabama Christian Academy hosts Prattville Christian Academy tonight, kickoff is set for 7p.
