“Sista Strut” 2016 Raises Awareness for Breast Cancer

Hundreds of women spent Saturday morning walking to raise awareness for breast cancer.

It was all part of montgomery’s first “Sista Strut” walk. The walk focuses on how the disease harms african american women. According to breastcancer.org  breast cancer in African American women is more common. Reports also show that women of color have severe tumors from the disease.

Supporters say early detection is key.

“We all want to fight breast cancer, all of us. So everybody’s out here to support the survivors and to let everyone know that they support this month,” says Joy Blondheim, Founder of Joy to Life Foundation.

The walk benefits the joy to life foundation and the sistas can survive coalition. Supporters were also at Carver High School Saturday for their annual breast cancer walk, which also benefits Sistas Can Survive cCalition.
