Drought Affecting Cattle Industry in Dallas Co.
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Drought conditions across the state are having a major impact on the cattle industry and could drive some cattlemen out of the business altogether.
Dallas County Cattleman’s Association President Darrell Steward said cattle farmers are spending more money to feed and water their herds this year because of the drought.
He said some of the smaller cattle farmers may not be able to afford the added expense if the drought continues to drag on.
“They’ll have to sell their herds because they won’t be able to financially withstand the cost, which is just going to put several other cattle farmers out of the cattle business,” said Steward.
He said the drought and its affects couldn’t have come at a worse time for cattlemen, because right now, cattle are selling at half the price they were last year.
