Waiting on Cold Front
Today will be an overall calm day as we wait on the much colder air to arrive Thursday. Until then, our Wednesday will be a cool and dry day. We should see a bit more sun today, but still, we are expecting more clouds than sun. As far as highs, we are forecasting highs near 60°. Enjoy today, because much colder air is on the way.
HERE COMES WINTER: Or at least winter-like temperatures…The Arctic front will blow through Alabama Thursday. Moisture will be limited, but some light rain could accompany the front as a thin band of showers. After the front passes, strong north winds will kick in and usher in the coldest air so far this season. We will have a hard time getting past the low 50s Thursday afternoon, and a north wind of 15-30 mph will make it feel colder. By Friday morning we should reach the mid 20s, and during the day Friday we won’t get out of the 40s despite sunshine in full supply.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday should be our coldest morning, we are expecting lows between 20 and 25 degrees across South/Central Alabama. By the afternoon, temperatures will begin to moderate as mid 50s are expected with more sunshine than clouds. Temperatures will continue an upward trend Saturday night with only lower 30s expected. Sunday will feature a few more clouds and late in the day, a shower will be possible as our next storm system approaches. Highs Sunday will be in the 50s. Sunday night, rain looks to become more widespread as temperatures hold in to the mid 40s, severe weather is not expected.
RAIN RETURNS: Another rainy Monday looks to greet us early next week as both the GFS and the European model (ECMWF) show a beneficial rain event early next week, around half an inch is possible. Another round of rain looks possible late Tuesday and Wednesday, and at this time no severe weather is expected. Behind the midweek system, another shot of cold, Arctic air looks to arrive in Alabama.
