Dr. Quesha Starks Chosen at New Bullock County Superintendent

The board voted in favor of Dr. Quesha Starks as Bullock County Schools Superintendent.

“Dr. Starks comes from a different background than what we have here in Bullock County,” says Orlando Johnson, Vice President of the Bullock County School Board.

“She has a long history in the board of education. She’s actually a previous employer here in the district-some twenty years ago,” says LaDerrick Caldwell, President of the Bullock County School Board.

Starks also worked in the Montgomery system as principal of Booker T. Washington Magnet High School. Bullock County board members are hoping her long-standing success will be just what Bullock County Schools need.

“This community has clearly expressed that they wanted to try something different and wanted to hire someone locally, inside of our school district. So it’s going to be a challenge to try to bring the district and the school system together but I hope we’ll be able to do it,” say Johnson.

The superintendent’s position came open after Superintendent Elliot Harris resigned earlier this year.

“We had a total of nineteen very qualified applicants. We ultimately narrowed the decision down to five candidates and those five candidates I think any of the five would be have been great choices,” says Caldwell.

But board members say Starks brings something different to the table.

“It’s been a long tiresome three and a half weeks so I’m glad we’re moving forward to do what’s in the best interest of the district,” says Johnson.

We have reached out to Starks on her new position but have not received a response yet.
