No Extension For Same Sex Marriage Delay

Same sex marriage is one step closer to a reality in Alabama.

This after a circuit court rejects an appeal from Attorney General Luther Strange to continue a stay after the state’s ban was overturned.

It’s been a roller coaster the last couple of weeks with the topic.

Unless the US Supreme court steps in, same sex couples could get married in Alabama after the stay is lifted on Monday.

Soon it’ll be Alabamians filling out same sex marriage license forms.

A federal judge overturned the state’s ban about a week ago, but stayed the ruling to give attorney general luther strange time to appeal.

Now that his appeal has been rejected, Strange issued a statement saying, “I am disappointed in the 11th U.S. Circuit Court’s decision… Today, we filed a motion with the U.S. Supreme Court to stay the federal court’s decision until the Supreme Court finally rules on the issue in June.”

Governor Bentley has also said he’s disappointed and supports the attorney general.
Political analyst Steve Flowers says he won’t be surprised if other state officials like Chief Justice Roy Moore continue to voice their opinion against same sex marriage.

“They’re George Wallacing, they’re George Wallacing the issue. Standing in the school house door is good theatrics but it’s not good politics it really hurts the state. Not only if we try to appeal it financially, but it hurts the state’s image,” said Flowers.

Two people who are watching the issue very closely are Shonte Wolf and Tori Sisson, a same sex couple who wants to get married here in the state they call home.

“We decided regardless of what was going to happen we were not going to go out of state to get married anwywhere else. We were going to stay in the state of alabama because we believe in alabama. We believe that it will not be a make me state and we were proven right,” said Wolf.
